As part of a study to better understand the cyanobacterial harmful algal blooms that have been turning Deal Lake bright green in summer, Spring '18 Ecosystem Analysis students are conducting nutrient addition bioassays to see which nutrients (N, P, or both) limit phytoplankton biomass in the coastal lake. Thanks to the Deal Lake Commission for the use of a house to incubate the samples. Unfortunately there was a Nor'Easter while the experiment was incubating but the experiment pulled through and the students are working up the data now.
